History
Italian motorcycle builder, Alessandro Anzani (1877 - 1956) produced the first practical air-cooled 3-cylinder radial engine. This type of engine powered Louis Bleriot’s aeroplane, the first to fly across the English channel in 1909.
After this success, Anzani wanted to produce a smoother and more powerful engine and this double banked version with a total of six cylinders was the result.
Between 1912 and 1915, Clyde Cessna, an American aircraft builder, used these engines to power several monoplanes.
