The unit represents the equipment installed in large numbers in Britain as part of the expansion of National Health dental clinics in the 1950s. It includes everything from a Heliodent x-ray unit to a fan to keep the patient cool.

This dental unit has all the tools that a dentist needed in the early 1950s. The unit power comes from electric motors inside the base and the drill operated at a relatively slow speed.

Air-powered motors came later and increased the speed of the drills; this significantly improved the experience of going to the dentist.
