At the time of its production this was regarded as an advanced form of high performance motorcycle, capable of speeds approaching 100 mph.
The engine is an overhead-valve, vertical twin-cylinder having the valve gear operated from a single camshaft. Each cylinder has a bore of 70 mm and a stroke of 84 mm, giving a total capacity of 646 cc. The compression ratio is 7.25 to 1. The transmission comprises a four-speed gearbox with positive-stop foot control, a multi-plate clutch with fabric inserts; and a primary chain in an oil bath chain case.
