Bell & Howell 8mm cine projector, model 606H, c.1956

The projector and camera have been made by the same company and probably bought together by an amateur from a specialist dealer. This was a first step from still camera photography to moving pictures in the home. They could be used for showing home-made films or pre-made library films.

[edit] How it works

The projector runs the film (made with the cine camera) at the same speed (16 frames per second), shines light throught the film and focuses the images onto a wall or specially-made screen.

This changing sequence of still images appears to be moving as if real life, due to the fact the human eye cannot detect the separate frames at that speed and combines them into a single moving image.
