In the late 1920s the pioneer sound film systems used discs for the sound track. ‘Broadway Melody’ was MGM's first all-talking picture, and it was the first sound film to win an Oscar for Best Picture. Because the discs wore quite rapidly a the number of playings was strictly limited.
