The science of weather is well understood. Forecasts can be made with high accuracy for up to a week or so ahead. Climate – the typical behaviour of weather – is also increasingly understood.

For 10,000 years before the age of fossil fuels, our climate system was relatively stable. But the climate is changing. This is not new, but the present day changes are, and can only be, explained by the effects of human activity. Although there will be some benefits, overall the impacts on humanity will be negative and serious. In any case, we can no longer assume tomorrow will be like today.
