The light bulb contains neon, an inert gas, and the filament is in the form of the initials ER. It was made specially for the coronation of Elizabeth II.
Electricity is a form of secondary power delivery distributed by cable to nearly every home. Generated for public supply from coal for the first time by Thomas Edison in New York in 1882, it is also the most convenient way to use renewable sources of power (wind, water, tidal, solar and others). This convenience is so great and so embedded in our civil infrastructure that moving away from electricity now would be extremely difficult.
