How To Buy Furniture, 1947, Council of Industrial Design (COID) book
During the war an acute shortage of timber had led the government to regulate the manufacture of all furniture and also its design. The Utility range was intended to combine clean design with economy. But due to Britain’s dreadful financial position, this control extended into the post-war world. In 1947 the COID published this book giving advice on available designs and materials.
