The engine was fitted to the Heinkel Hel 77A Grief variants of the bomber / maritime patrol aircraft.


[edit] How it Worked

Daimler Benz mounted two D8605 inverted V12 engines side by side to produce the DB610 and they are positioned so that the two inner banks of cylinders are almost vertical.

These engine units had persistent crankshaft problems that were caused by vibration or lack of lubrication often due either to design faults or to sabotage at the factory.
