[edit] How it works

The dishes are loaded onto a revolving carousel, which is lowered into the tub like a washing machine and then sprayed with soapy water until they are sparkling clean.

[edit] Memories

Father bought one in 1954 and I am still using it in 2008. All done in 10 minutes, noisy. I just chuck in some kettles of boiling water at appropriate times, meanwhile doing other jobs. Had to spend £10 on new Hoover motor in 1960s which I must claim back from manufacturers in New Zealand.

My father bought one and it worked rather well. It had a propeller just like that from an outboard motor at the bottom. The motor started and then a clockwork timer let water in. One day there was a power cut. When the power was restored, the propeller flung all two gallons of water up in one mass, bursting open the lid and scattering glasses everywhere.
