Help:Contributing

From Object Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This website was created by the Science Museum to build information and memories about the objects in the museum's collections. The information is being developed collaboratively, which means that anyone can contribute, including you.

Because this is a 'wiki' website (like Wikipedia), all the pages can be edited and improved by anyone - simply by clicking the 'edit' button at the top of each page. You don't even have to register. There's lots of different ways you can contribute, from simply correcting other people's typos to adding information that only you know. We have not added everything so there are plenty of gaps for you to fill in.

[edit] Adding your memories

You might recognise some of the objects on this website. Perhaps you had one many years ago, or maybe you remember a relative having one. You might even have one tucked away in your attic! Alternatively, you might have worked in the factory that produced the object, or have worked on its design.

If you can remember an object, we'd like you to share your memories of it. There is a 'Memories' section on every object page, within which is a link that will take you to a text box where you can type in your memories. You can write as much or as little as you feel is relevant.

We'd like to put a name next to your text. So that we know who you are, please either register (it doesn't take long) or simply add your name to the end of your text.

Alternatively, if you're not quite sure what to do, you can e-mail your memory to objectwiki@sciencemuseum.org.uk, and we'll add it to the website for you.
