Islamic clestial globes which survive today are made from bronze with silver studs to represent stars. Human figures outlined on Islamic globes are usually shown facing outward. By contrast, European globes show the human figures facing inward as would be seen by a viewer on Earth.
This Islamic globe dates from the seventeeth century, about 150 stars are represented by silver studs, but it lacks star patterns. The surface of the sphere is engraved with the names of the stars in Arabic characters.
