Murphy had established a reputation for well-designed radios in the 1930s. R D (Dick) Russell, who in 1949 became Britain’s first Professor of Industrial Design, worked with Murphy to produce sets like this Murphy A124 radio, which combined a pleasing modern appearance with good acoustic performance. The cabinets were made by the furniture-making firm run by his brother, Gordon Russell, who was director of the Council of Industrial Design between 1947 and 1959.

[edit] Memories

Hello. Yes I remember this radio, in fact I have one. It's in full working condition, and I am proud to own a small part of British radio history. It's a nice looking radio, looks nice at night with the dial lit up, and sounds great too!
