From the mid-1950s until the introduction of the compact cassette there was a strong minority interest in high quality sound reproduction from reel-to-reel tapes. This Philips recorder typifies what was available to the committed enthusiast at the time and gave a performance attractive to the professional user as well.

[edit] Memories

I was lucky enough to have been the owner of one of these wonderful N4450 machines, purchased brand new from Argos in around 1971 or 1972. It cost £308 at the time, very expensive, but worth every penny.

I owned it for about 6 years, and I finally sold it to someone in Belgium in 1977 for the equivalent of £1,000, the guy was obsessed with becoming the owner, so how could I resist?

Fabulous multi multi featured machine, I would love to have another one, in spite of all the amazing digital hardware and software we now have at our disposal.

Ahhhh, sweet memories!!
