The large-capacity vee-twin-cylinder type of engine had been used for motorcycles since about 1910, and this was one of the last examples when produced in the years soon after the end of the Second World War. It was designed to run for long periods under heavy load with high speed and efficiency. At 65 mph the engine revolutions are as low as about 3520 per minute, so that less wear takes place for ordinary touring use.
